Dr. Seuss's Garden

Sometimes as I walk Kingwood, I stop in my tracks and think to myself, I have been transported to Dr. Seuss's Garden.  My last encounter was in the Greenhouse with the Sensitive Plant.  But again just yesterday in a walk from Kingwood Hall to my Jeep, I experienced it again in the Perennial Garden when I saw this seed pod. I pay close attention, because Dr. Seuss's Garden only shows itself for brief periods of time.

Red Sholdered Hawk

Today was a rain day for the Rose Garden volunteers.  It was still drizzling as I made a visit to work on a spreadsheet up at the house.  On my walk from the parking lot I sighted this Red Shouldered Hawk hanging out on a lamp post.  I would have stood there all day, but I ran out of camera battery.  Took about 350 pictures.  It was an exciting time.  I will only share two that I really loved.

This one is the one I have chose to put on Facebook.
The hawk was a little wet and preening its feathers.
I was so pleased to get this picture.

If I had used this one as a Caption This....
.....My caption would be.....
Simon Says stand on one foot!
Spread Your Wings..
Simon didn't say Spread Your Wings!

Hello Spring meet Winter

Blooming on the 30th and snowcover on the 31st.
In like a lamb and out like a lion was the saying of the day.

Still beautiful under the blanket of snow...
...I rescued the blooms for a picture.

Hint of Spring

Today I had just about an hour for a relaxing walk around Kingwood Center.  There are two patches of Winter Aconites starting to bloom.  One in the Perennial Garden near the parking lot and one on the back path of the duck pond.  The tulips and daffodils are still just nubs making this just a hint of Spring.

Snow

I love that sticky wet snow that clings to the trees (and in the right temperatures makes a good snowman).  It has its drawbacks though.  As in if you have to shovel it or drive in it.  Unfortunately a sticky snow fall occurred on the day scheduled for the Interest in the Winter Garden Tour and it had to be rescheduled to the 26th. I did get out to the gardens soon afterward to get a winter photo in the perennial garden.

I am aware of the damages freezing ice can have on tree branches, but I guess I didn't realized that the snow can be damaging as well, until I noticed the guys were diligently removing the heavy snow from the hedges.  My arms were aching just watching them push the snow with brooms.  As I fed the ducks, it seemed they made quick work of it and moved on to another project.
